BRIAN PENTONY
Secretary
Brian Pentony currently serves as the Production Manager and Secretary for The Washington Tattoo. Brian’s experience as a performing musician spans nearly 50 years to include over 20 years as a Snare Drummer and leader in The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, The official escort to President of the United States.
A native of Chatham New Jersey, Brian began his drumming career at the age of 8 as a member of The Morris County Militia Ancient Fife and Drum Corps, and was fortunate to study under World Drum Corps Hall of Fame instructors Al “Duke” Terreri, Eric Perrilloux, and Bobby Thompson. Following numerous State and Northeastern Individual drumming titles as a member of Morris County, Brian earned a coveted position in the Old Guard Drumline and joined the Army in September 1981 to begin his service.
During his time in the corps, Brian served in increasing levels of leadership within the drum line culminating in his promotion to the leader of the Snare Line in 1991. As a leader and performer, Brian contributed to numerous musical projects to include challenging drum features such as “The Adventures of Joe 90” “Evolution”, and “The Long Grey Line” as well as drum scores for “The Spirit of America”, a historical pageant presented annually at that time by the Old Guard. Brian’s powerful drumming style and tireless dedication to the art of rudimental drumming significantly transformed the Old Guard under his leadership, resulting in a new and higher level of professionalism and musicality that is still in evidence in today’s Corps.
Today Brian continues to serve as a performer, instructor, and moderator for several local snare and drumline clinics, and globally at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), The United States Association of Rudimental Drummers Convention (USARD), and the Society of International Rudimental Drumming (SIRD) where he will be performing this year in Portsmouth, UK.
Brian has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems from Strayer University and is Support Manager Certified through Service Strategies. Brian also holds a Certificate in Forecast Meteorology from Penn State University.
